Around 200 experts from science and industry came together last week for the international crash.tech 2026 conference at the THI. The conference is an established platform for exchanging information on current developments in vehicle safety and brought experts from research institutions, automotive companies and suppliers to Ingolstadt.
The conference focused on new developments in passive safety, advances in simulation and accident research, as well as the impact of new mobility concepts and regulatory requirements on vehicle safety.
In his welcoming address, THI President Professor Walter Schober emphasised the importance of the industry: "The automotive industry is and will remain a key industry for Germany and Europe. Research and innovation in vehicle safety make a decisive contribution to making mobility safer and more sustainable."
With the research centre CARISSMA, THI has one of the most modern centres for vehicle safety research in Germany. As a nationwide leading centre for vehicle safety, CARISSMA combines scientific research with industrial application and thus offers ideal conditions for the exchange between science and practice.
Conference chair Professor Thomas Helmer also referred to the changing framework conditions for mobility and transport: "The geopolitical situation, economic changes, and technological change are also having an increasing impact on mobility and transport policy. This is precisely why the dialogue between science and industry is so important to jointly develop solutions for safe mobility in the future."
The crash.tech conference takes place every two years and is regarded as an important meeting place for the international specialist community in the field of vehicle safety.
